Wash Your Face With Oil?

January 22nd, 2008

olivefacewash.jpg

Are you searching for baby soft skin and don’t want all the chemicals? We have the answer to your problems and promise that it will make the difference you have been looking for.

Take organic olive oil from your kitchen or you can buy wonderfully scented oil from us and wash your face with olive oil! Take a small amount of oil and rub it all over your face and neck. While the oil is doing it’s magic on your skin run hot water over a soft wash cloth. When it is nice and warm drape it over your face and neck for a minute or two and let the heat steam away any make-up and debris away. Gently dab away oil from your neck and face using upward motion- you don’t want to pull down as gravity is doing just that without your help!

You will end up with baby soft skin that is clean and fresh we promise! Everyone needs to play around with it a bit and see what works for you. I was every morning with it, some people like to do it in the evening, and you may want to wash with the oil every other day.

**Before you turn your nose up at the thought of adding oil to an already oily face, just remember oil breaks down oil. Your skin will not absorb it and the olive oil will not clog your pours! Give it a try! What do you have to lose?

Kudos on the Lip Balm

Usually, I am not one to toot my own horn. I try my darnedest to put my products out in front of the public, but nothing does that better than a happy customer.  Luckily for me I have wonderful, happy customers who love my products and have no problem making me blush by telling me and their friends how much they love Wild Wind Soap Company and our products.

My list of “kudos” on the lip balm front keeps getting longer and longer so I thought I would share a few of them here with you today. If you want to give our lip balm a try, when checking out use code “kudos1″ for a $1.00 off your lip balm order!

That lip balm is fantastic- it is the best and it is sooooooooo soft! I buy different brands all the time - especially in the winter - and I have never come across anything that can even compare with that. I absolutely love it! (I have really sensitive lips too and am prone to cold sores and this stuff works great - lips feel better than they have in months!)
-Elise, Minnesota

Hi Bethany! I just wanted to say thanks for sending out my lip balm SO QUICKLY. And thank you for the wonderful samples! I can’t wait to try them. And one last thing - BEST LIP BALM EVER. I am truly in love with this stuff. I’m a bit of a lip balm addict, and I literally have probably almost 100 tubes of lip balm. I like to use all different kinds and because of that, I’ve only ever finished off two tubes EVER. One of them, was your lip balm :D Love this stuff, you’ll definitely see more of me!
-Brianne, Kansas

Thank you so much for the wonderful lip balm you included in my order! Had I known this stuff was this great I would have ordered 5 more! You will be seeing more of me in the future.
Blessings~
-Penny, Wisconsin

You out do yourself on the packaging alone, and that lip balm…I have NEVER had such soft lips! My whole body is soft, smooth, and my skin feels like an 18 year old again! Keep up the good work!

-Carol, California

My lips are ready for anything!

Our Story

January 10th, 2008

sundown.jpg

So, many times over I have people ask how, why, or what made you start Wild Wind Soap Company and I thought I would broach the subject here. In a short I got sick- sicker than I have ever been in my whole life and I thought I was going to die… Or maybe I really just hoped I would so I didn’t have to keep going the way I was.

Anyway, 5 years ago as I was walking out to my barn to bring a bag of food out to my kitties I had this totally weird flashing, colorful light go through my eyes. It probably only lasted a few seconds but when it happened I couldn’t see a darn thing but beautiful colors…and if I wouldn’t have been in intense pain shortly afterwards it may have been slightly cool. Unfortunately as soon as the light quit I had the sensation of a hot poker in my left eye, and it didn’t stop for over a year.

I went to my eye doctor and then an eye specialist who told me I was perfectly fine. Then I made a trip to my family Doctor who did blood tests for everything he could think of.

Slowly but surely different things started to pop up with my health. Headaches that never quit, my eyeball feeling as if the pressure behind it would pop it out of my head, numb hands and feet, Raynaud’s Disease, I was tired all the time- I could sleep all day but I was up all night long, my joints felt like I was 90 years old, I couldn’t think, I was becoming depressed and I had mood swings that would make my dogs, cats, and chickens fear for their lives– and the list went on and on…

My DR put me on drugs to help my joints and my headaches which ended up being chronic migraines but nothing relieved the pain. He finally sent me to a neurologist saying he couldn’t do anymore. The neurologist put me on more drugs, did MRI’s and tested me for Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and MS and the days clicked by with nothing getting better and some things getting even worse. I was then sent to a Rheumatologist and he told me I could have Lupus or Fibromyalgia but he still wasn’t sure anything was wrong with me. This went on for a few years and I was so worn out I finally asked the one question that was floating around in my foggy brain daily; will I be on all of these drugs the rest of my life? I was 33 years old at the time and the answer was “YES”.

Sometimes you have to take the bull by the horns…and I did. I started thinking I was going to fix myself if no one else could. I looked into natural healing, joined as many online health groups as I could find and read about Homeopathy which piqued my interest. Low and behold we had one only a half hour away, I called her up and a month later she started the process of saving my life. With compassion I never knew existed in the health care industry she taught me to listen to my body and to believe in myself. It has taken two years for me to really know my body, but I finally do. I am very proud of the fact I have not taken even an aspirin in two years and my life has changed immensely!

Stress is the biggest thing that made me sick, and I now know how to deal with it. I also have learned to stick up for myself, say what I think, and be true to myself. Some easy things that are sometimes so very hard. Yesterday was bittersweet as it was my last visit with my homeopath– she told me I had graduated! She will always be there for me if I need her, but she felt that I have learned what I need to take care of myself.

So, long story short, my life was falling apart (or so I thought) when I started Wild Wind Soap Company. It was formed out of my desire to take care of myself, even if it was one beautiful bar of soap at a time. I wanted to be responsible for my well being, and didn’t want anyone telling me that some drug or chemically laden this or that was going to keep me healthy the rest of my life!

Take care of yourself- I mean really take care of yourself- and you may be surprised what you find out about yourself…

ST. PAUL, Minn. (Dec. 14) - The quest for thicker lashes and defined eyes should get safer in Minnesota on Jan. 1, when a state law banning mercury from mascara, eye liners and skin-lightening creams takes effect.

Minnesota apparently is the first state in the nation to ban intentionally added mercury in cosmetics, giving it a tougher standard than the federal government.

Retailers who knowingly sell mercury-containing cosmetics in Minnesota could face fines of as much as $700. Penalties could reach $10,000 for manufacturers who fail to disclose mercury on product labels, according to the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency.

“Mercury does cause neurological damage to people even in tiny quantities,” said Sen. John Marty, the Democrat from Roseville who sponsored the ban. “Every source of mercury adds to it. We wanted to make sure it wasn’t here.”

Most makeup manufacturers have phased out the use of mercury, but it’s still added legally to some eye products as a preservative and germ-killer, said John Bailey, chief scientist with the Personal Care Products Council in Washington. That group doesn’t track mercury in beauty products and favors a national approach to regulating cosmetics, instead of laws that vary from state to state.

Federal law allows eye products to contain up to 65 parts per million of mercury. The exposure a person would get from a product used in small quantities around the eyes would not cause a problem, Bailey said.

“It’s added at very low levels, and for good reason,” he said.

No other state has specifically gone after mercury in cosmetics, said Stacy Malkan with the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics in Berkeley, Calif. Connecticut, Rhode Island and Louisiana ban products containing more than low levels of mercury, with some exceptions. New York and Illinois prohibit consumer products with mercury, such as figurines, toys and jewelry.

“Personal care products contain many problematic chemicals,” Malkan said. “Many ingredients aren’t listed on the labels.”

Minnesota’s cosmetics provision is part of a larger ban targeting better-known sources of mercury, such as thermostats, barometers, industrial switches and medical devices. The law also covers toiletries, fragrances and over-the-counter drugs such as eye drops, nasal sprays, hemorrhoid treatments and antiseptics.

State pollution regulators said they don’t know how many beauty products containing mercury are sold in Minnesota.

The new law is intended as a warning to cosmetics manufacturers not to use mercury, said John Gilkeson, with the state Pollution Control Agency’s toxics reduction program. Enforcement will happen mainly when consumers complain.

Using eye makeup with mercury is unlikely to cause immediate health problems, but mercury accumulates in the body, so consumers should avoid exposure whenever possible, said Carl Herbrandson, a toxicologist with the state Health Department.

“Mercury is bad, basically in all forms that get into the body,” Herbrandson said.

Mercury can retard brain development in children and fetuses, who are most vulnerable to the metal’s toxic effects. But it can also cause neurological symptoms in adults.

Mercury fumes can collect inside a jar of skin cream or a tube of mascara, and a person could inhale them when the container is opened, Herbrandson said.

Imported skin-lightening creams and soaps with high levels of mercury have been found in other states; they are illegal under federal law. Herbrandson said skin products with mercury are more dangerous than mercury-containing eye makeup because people apply larger quantities to their bodies.
